Sending your cameras to a television or another phone

How it works
The screen that should receive the cameras shows a code; the phone that has them reads the code and sends. Nothing goes through the internet: the two devices talk directly over your Wi-Fi, and the setup is encrypted between them with a key agreed for that one hand-over.
- On the receiving screen — the TV, the tablet, the other phone — open ViewTile and choose Add cameras from a phone (in Settings; on a TV it is on the first screen). A code appears.
- On the phone that has the cameras, open Settings, choose Send to a screen, and point the camera at the code. ViewTile asks for camera access the first time; it uses it only to read codes.
- Choose what to send. The camera list and the layouts always go; the camera passwords go only if you switch them on. Tap Send.
- The receiving screen shows what arrived and asks whether to accept it. Nothing is saved there until somebody says yes.
What travels, and what does not
The cameras’ addresses, names, streams and layouts. Passwords when you include them. Snapshots, clips and the app’s settings stay where they are.
When the code will not scan
- Both devices must be on the same network. A guest network, or a second network name in the same building, keeps them apart even when both have internet.
- The code has a short life. Go back and open Add cameras from a phone again for a fresh one.
- The phone cannot reach the screen. A router that keeps Wi-Fi devices apart from each other (“client isolation”) blocks this, and blocks the cameras too. Turn it off for this network.
- Too dark to read. Move closer, or turn the television’s brightness up for a moment.
The television app is still in development; the phone-to-phone and phone-to-tablet hand-over is the same flow.
