Where they go
Every snapshot and every clip is saved to your photo library — Photos on an iPhone, Google Photos or the gallery on Android — like a picture you took with the camera. ViewTile also keeps a list of them under Settings › Captures, with the camera and the time each one came from, so you can find “the one from the entrance at ten past four” without scrolling through the library.
Clips (a Pro feature; snapshots are free) are up to five minutes long. The recording stops by itself at the limit, and the clip is written when it stops; a phone put to sleep mid-clip ends the clip at that point.
The permission
The first snapshot asks for permission to add to your photo library. ViewTile asks for add-only access where the phone offers it: it can put pictures in, it cannot look at what is already there. If you refused it, the snapshot was not saved — turn it on under the phone’s Settings for ViewTile and take it again.
Sharing and deleting
Share from the photo library like any photo. There are two copies of each capture: the one in your library, and the one ViewTile keeps for its own Captures list (it cannot read your library back, so it keeps a copy to show you). Deleting from the library removes yours; ViewTile’s copy stays until you remove it under Captures — one at a time, or Clear the list for all — and the oldest are dropped by themselves when they take too much room. Deleting the app removes ViewTile’s copies and nothing from your library.
The other kind of recording
A clip is what you take while watching. What a camera records on its own card is a different thing, listed under the camera’s page where the camera offers it; see Does ViewTile alert me, or record around the clock?.
