iPhone: ViewTile finds nothing, and the permission was refused
Last updated:
What the permission is
Before the first scan, ViewTile says what it is about to do, and the iPhone asks whether the app may use the local network; the scan waits for the answer. That is the whole job of the app — the cameras are on that network — so a refused permission means the scan finds nothing and a typed address does not answer either. The scan screen then says so and offers Open Settings. Nothing in the app is broken; the phone is blocking it.
Turn it back on
- Open the iPhone’s Settings.
- Scroll to ViewTile and open it.
- Switch on Local Network.
- Go back to ViewTile and scan again.
On iOS 17 and later the same switch is also under Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network.
If the switch is already on
Then the network is the reason, not the phone. The usual ones, in order: the phone is on a guest network or a second network name; the router keeps Wi-Fi devices apart from each other (“client isolation”); the cameras are on a separate network in the same building. The scan screen names these itself when nothing answers, and No cameras answered the scan explains each.
ViewTile asks for nothing else on the phone except what you use: the camera only for reading a pairing code and, while you use the phone as a camera, for its live video, adding to the photo library only when you take a snapshot or a clip, and Face ID or Touch ID only if you turn the app lock on.
