An update
Nothing changes. The camera list, the layouts, the settings and the passwords are on the device and survive updates. The release notes say if anything about an update needs your attention.
A reinstall on the same phone
The camera list and the settings go with the app. Passwords are in the phone’s secure storage: on Android they go with the app; on an iPhone the system may keep them, so a reinstalled ViewTile can find them again — or not, depending on the phone. Do not count on it; treat a reinstall as a new phone.
A new phone
Three ways, from best to worst:
- Hand the cameras over. On the new phone open ViewTile and choose Add cameras from a phone; on the old one choose Send to a screen and read the code. Everything travels directly between the two phones over your Wi-Fi, encrypted for that hand-over; include the passwords or not, as you choose. A minute’s work. - A setup file. ViewTile can write a file with the camera list and the layouts — no passwords in it — that you carry across however you like; the new phone asks for each camera’s password once.
- Scan again. Cameras that follow the standard are found in seconds; tick them all, and a shared password is typed once.
What is never carried
Snapshots and clips are in the photo library, which the phone’s own transfer moves. Nothing else exists: there is no account whose contents could be lost or restored, because there is no account.
